How we made this site

Hydrocephalus

Acoustic neuroma tumors secrete proteins into the fluid that bathes the brain. This fluid is called the cerebrospinal fluid.

There is a danger that the cerebrospinal fluid can get so thick that it will clog the normal drainage system and pressure will build up inside the brain. This problem is called hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus can also be caused when the tumor becomes so large that it hits the brain stem.

The symptoms of hydrocephalus may include any of the following:

Headache
Nausea
Vomiting
Tiredness
Lethargy
Sunsetting – downward deviation of the eyes
Balance problems
Gait problems
Irritability
Personality changes
Memory problems
Problems with cognition
Loss of consciousness
Incontinence
And other symptoms
